Topic 3 Tasks
Finding the formula of ionic compounds
Formula of Ionic compounds
Objective To be able to write the formula of a range of ionic compounds
If you are unsure about how to complete the sheet on formula of ionic compounds go to:

Ionic or covalent?
Ionic or covalent?
Objective To understand the differences between compounds with ionic bonding and those with covalent bonding
Atoms join together by chemical bonds. In today’s lesson you are going to distinguish between ionic bonds and covalent bonds.
You will need to know for each type of bonding:
What the bond involves-what is an ionic bond and what is a covalent bond?
How the bond is formed?
What structure is formed – note in covalent bonding there are two simple molecular and giant molecular
What properties are associated with each type of structure
First you need to be clear about what both of these types of bonding involve.
Follow through each of these interactive activities so that you are clear about both types of bonding and what they involve
Ionic bonding

Covalent bonding
You can also use the lessons on absorb learning:

Once you have all the information you need make a comparison table or poster showing :
Compounds with ionic structures
Compounds with simple molecules (covalent)
Compounds with giant molecules (covalent)
Remember to include each of the four points mentioned at the start
